Law and order in Triabunna

It has occurred to me that I haven't shown you recently the neat and orderly development of The Barracks , formerly a military barrack and stables.  It's certainly given Triabunna a lift, and lies between our place and the marina

where things are kept very shipshape.

Getting to Mrs O Henry's place, even their firewood looks a picture.

On the way home, the wattle is emerging.

And at home I have my first daffodil flower.  This gave cause for a glass of bubbly.  On Saturday night I went to see a band at the Golf Club and danced for the first time in ages.  Such good fun, and the piccolos of bubbly a mere $6!!!

The rainbow has landed

and worked its magic

subtly, as in broad beans emerging,

last year's daffodils returning like a legion of Persephones,

and the transplanted hellebores looking small but elegant in their new home beside the back fence.

Jill takes a sensible and philosophical stance,

as do I when the odd (and intensely flavoured) raspberry appears in the middle of Winter

and Hildegard of Bingen visits my garden.
She considered herself 'a feather on the breath of God'.

Out and about in Bunna and beyond

Last Tuesday we graced The East Coaster for coffee after zumba.  We have settled into a routine of alternating between here and Spirit of Maria in Triabunna.  It was NAIDOC week and a smoking ceremony was happening below us.

Thursday brought school lunch prep and service to the students, parents and community before Assembelly - the last week of term.  After spruiking leftover desserts to anyone not quick enough to get away, and washing 16 million dishes, it was off to the Orford Community Hall for the final rehearsal of the Maria Voices before their appearance at Festival of Voices.  It was only 6 numbers, starting with California Dreaming and finishing with Hit the Road, Jack, and it was very difficult not to get up and dance.  A very spirited performance.  I would love to join this group but there are just too many other things to do!
For some reason (that I must grill her on), Her Majesty donned a blonde wig.  I think it was for Dream Lover.  Really must find out.
The drummer, a new addition to the band, seemed to be having a helluva time - as drummers do.

Amazingly, Steve and I went out together on Saturday.  Tenzin Cheogyal was playing at the Spring Bay Mill, so we blissed out Tibetan style

Not forgetting that some time in the week, I picked up a piece of Georgia's work that had just been fired at The Village.  A beautiful piece, much admired.  Though it also reminds me of Captain Pugwash's boat.

Dulce domum

I bought this beautiful edition of Wind in the Willows for .50c last time I volunteered at PUBS.  I am reading it slowly, curled up in a sunny window, when I have the chance.  I love the philosophy and the ode to friendship.

Jill is pretty good at curling up in a sunny spot too.
note life imitating art

when vegans come visiting unexpectedly, a bottle of bubbly in the fridge is a life saver.
and such neat vegans too

sunsets have been beautiful

as was the moon last night

Steve is preparing for a Retrospective at  The Village.  He brought this glasswork into the kitchen this morning.  He'd been repairing it on the deck yesterday afternoon.  Very frosty last night!

Winter Solstice Swim 2

Too many solstice swims are never enough!  We were at it again today.

Winter Solstice

Friends of Triabunna Reserves did a clean up at Ada Street Reserve on the afternoon of 21 June.  I took this photo of Rob and Andrew returning to the cars.  However... they are very difficult to see.  It looks as though the mist is rising to take them to the twilight zone.  But it didn't, and we ended our travails with dinner at the Tandara.

The next day I read online somewhere that, if you stood in the sun at noon on that day, your shadow would be as long as it could be in natural light.  I don't actually think its true, and needs the qualification of 'the longest it will be in natural light at noon'.  Still, it was fun.  And I can see tiger eyes on either side of my shadow.

Swim Weekend

'Twas the night before solstice...  Actually it was Saturday afternoon, and the weekend before the winter solstice.

Maria Island looked like a volcano as we swept, cleaned and organised the Nippers shed for the Big Event the next day:  Spring Bay Suicide Awareness Network Annual Winter Solstice Swim at Raspins Beach.

Having made all presentable, we repared to Wattlebanks in Orford for a self-congratulatory coffee and even a bit of cake.  The mist still hung on the river.

We gathered at 6.30am on Sunday for final preparations.  The goddess was with us - no wind, no rain.

Sue leads the charge in at 0800

Raelene leads the charge out, possibly at 0801

I'm in there, but obscured.  It is such a wonderful thing to be part of.  I felt so alive afterwards and ate 2 veggie patties for breakfast, and another 2 for lunch at home.  I hit the wall at about 1.30pm and allowed myself the indulgence of lounging on the couch reading The Wind in the Willows with the heater on all afternoon.
I managed to be awake at 8.30pm to watch Miss Fisher, then Why Didn't They Ask Evans?
Bobbin didn't quite make the distance.  We both slept very  soundly.
