Hola!

You are supposed to be noticing the agapanthus in the pot, not how old Rosie is looking.  Ever since Spain, I have wanted to have blue agapanthus in pots.
Another odious comparison perhaps.
As is this.  The sole hollyhock to date.  I had zillions last year.
In other Wentworth news:
a crane mysteriously appeared on Darling Street, spent some time at the Crown Hotel and vanished,
an unusual blue feather at the foot of the stairs,
and Sis ponders why I'm so intrigued by a feather.

Wentworth

Went for a little stroll out the back on Sunday to check out the new riverboat.  Here she is

nestled among the reeds and named The Wentworth.  The boat is designed to be wheelchair accessible and so the deck is flush with the wharf.  Wonderful.  As is this.
Little difficult to see... but there is a white egret on the flat-topped bollard.  We have never seen so many species of waterbirds as we have this year.  Looking back towards the town via the driveway between the Royal Hotel and Motel
and a close up of the 4WD.
I guess the car and the clothes found some mud.  Worth celebrating after 9 years of drought.

Slow flying fox

The quick brown fox survived the greedy red kangaroo and landed last Friday - at least that's when I got him upon my return from Albury.  I'm not sure if its a vixen or reynard.  I've been doing a little fox research.  At first he was to be Cadno which apparently is South Welsh for fox.  But then the girl / boy thing worried me and I realised that Samhain is the perfect name.  It is the Celtic festival held on 31 October - links to Halloween which has always been important to me.  The end of the Celtic year and the eve of the New Year.  Suits me just fine.  Samhain had a home (lair?) in my bedroom but I keep finding him all over the place - depends who comes into the gallery and who Steve shows him off to.
For those recently joining this blog... this fox was made and painted by Georgia and was purchased from her Etsy shop.  Look at Georgia's blog Verbosity (click on purple word or see side of this blog) to check it out.

A towns

Last week I went to Albury for training for work - Solution Focused Brief Therapy - and very good it was too.  Far too busy to take photos but did snap this Yabbie at Moulamein on the way home.  Mostly as I drove I was ruminating...

not unlike this cow.  This cow, and a few of similar ilk, lives at Longview Vineyard, a favourite haunt for Mum and me when I'm in Adelaide.  Good wine and truly superb tapas.

When in Adelaide week before last, I was sent on a mission by Steve.  Given it was at the Botanical Gardens, I was happy to accept.  Perhaps all Strelizias (????) look like this in bud, don't know, but it was pretty stunning.
This was my mission - to photograph the Gingko Gates.  I'm rather partial to gingkos - was very surprised to find them as street trees in Seoul a few years ago - apparently they survive pollution well.  Of course my camera, aka phone, died after a cuppla shots.  This is the Western Gate to the Gardens - more or less behind the Adelaide Hospital. The Gate leads into the Healing Garden, which is wonderful.  Not so sure of the Gate as a piece of art (which is why I was sent there).  It looks very Soviet in design to me, and doesn't sit well with my notion of gingko.  The detail, however, is exquisite.

Meanwhile in Wales

I'm off to Adelaide for Helly's birthday, Halloween and Melbourne Cup Day so won't be blogging for a while.  Most of you know that I also lead a life as an artist in St Davids, using the name Jackie Morris so I thought you could access this while I'm away.  Mum and I spent many a happy hour in the Visitor Information Centre cafe and gallery last year.  Wales is calling again.

I beg to differ

I had to borrow this news banner from the newsagent to make my point... Sadly the bougainvillea, despite repotting and our attempts at grafting, looks as though it's not long for this world.  Actually, I exaggerate.  The base of the plant is still alive but the long tendril it took me 3 years to achieve definitely looks on its way out.

Wine and roses

Jill and her Steve  visited for The Wentworth Show at the end of August.  Here's the Southern Belle relaxing on the Wentworth Wharf after the sensory overload of the Show.
And here is the Gold Bunny rose Southern Belle gave me.  Having been one of our pre-wedding slaves, she knows my penchant for this rose.

A thing of beauty is a joy

until it is pushed through the newsagents glass door.  Which is what happened to my beautiful bouganvillea pot last night.  Both the pot and the door are smashed.  The plant was snapped.  Steve and I have tried to graft / strap it back together.  We'll see.  We've had so many compliments about this potplant during the Country Music Festival.  Sometimes its hard to be a good citizen... to paraphrase a song I've heard a lot recently.
A reasonably unusual event in Wentworth.  Me and my big blog mouth.

August: unusual occurrences in Wentworth

It is strange to find a fish at the base of the Xenotaph, but not unusual to find the street full of tractors.  It happens every 5 years.
The Fergie Tractor Rally.
Thanking the little grey fergie for saving the town of Wentworth from the '56 floods.
It is unusual to see a fergie in The Crown Hotel.
It's usually at The Royal.
It is unusual to see a pink grey fergie, but Shirley misses no chance to promote breast cancer awareness.

Odious Comparisons

Ironically the site I got the Geraldine Chaplin / Julie Christie Dr Zhivago photo from is called 'Nothing Elegant...'

Mars and Mars

Don't think I ever blogged this one.  The Mars / Planets series is now on display in our hallway.

Cuppla shots from July

Learned my lesson and will only blog a few photos at a time...
NAIDOC Week - the first time Wentworth Shire Council has flown the Aboriginal Flag.
A good sign.

Bloggy Hell

I spent hours doing a long catch-up post but it's in the ether somewhere...  Here's what's left of it.

Here's Steve in early August looking frightfully delighted about something but I can't remember what.
An Occurrence at Cumberungee Bridge.  We set off for Popiltah Lake on the road to Broken Hill but we decided to picnic here instead.

Cuppla shots of last weekend

Finally moved the bouganvillea to outside the gallery
and celebrated in the usual way.

Style Icon

Yippee.  Back to blogging.  Finally had the time and inclination tonight but couldn't access the server - but all appears ok now...  Will do some catch up photos later but for now just wanted to share with you this amazing book.

From the Wentworth Library, of course.  I love the cover but also the design.  I think my Mum and Dad must have had a  dinner service in this design.  I vaguely remember a bowl and am sure Mum still has a dinner plate, which she now uses as a cake plate.  The author has a blog signejohansen.com but I haven't checked it out yet.

Food Frenzy

Hard to believe, but I've been cooking.  Lots of slow-cooked quinces - have eaten some with yoghurt for brekkie but have also frozen some to be used as a bed for pork fillet with caramelised onions.  Made glazed pumpkin and pumpkin puree - these are supposed to go on buckwheat pancakes but I didn't get around to that bit.  Pumpkins, walnuts, mandarins, quinces, I have to buy from the roadside stalls but today I had my first home-grown cumquat.  Oh yes, and a rocket salad from the garden.  All those years of watching cooking show have not been wasted.
Here's Rosie guarding a baby iris from possible marauders.  My Gardener Girl is a little tired these days.
I'm not game to test it but for some reason the idea that I'm no longer allergic to oats came into my head the other day...

Core Business

This blog is supposed to be about life on the Murray Darling Rivers so here's a few photos I've taken recently.  Cuppla Wednesdays ago I had to take Rosie to the vet for her arthritis injection.  Sis came too because she has fond memories of Puppy School there.
I like this stall because it has late season tomatoes and very good mandarins.
Rosie is not too keen on her muzzle - but we promised the dog-catcher...

Last Wednesday, I had a Wentworth day.  On the way to the Post Office I stopped to take a photo of the painter's 3-legged dog (what you see is what you get).  I must check to see what was actually being painted - Royce's or the former Elder's Office?

Had a coffee at Jade's and had to photo these girls lounging in the sun.  I've always had mixed feelings about this bench - I think it is too big for our main street - but I have to admit it looked perfect used like this.
Sometimes I go to the Crown for yabby chowder for lunch
but not this Wednesday.   Didn't want to deprive Focaccia...
Note beautiful bank building in background.

Endless Easter

Just when you (and I) thought it was all over...  I went to my sister's place in Christies Beach a weekend or so ago and got Easter presents!!!  Sandra and I promptly ate the Murray Mints as we were driving back to Mildura / Wentworth, so no photos there.  This egg is from Willowa.
So I'm thinking I should bring Easter to a proper end...
Back at Mum's house, I wickedly photographed this card that Tamasin had sent Mum,
featuring nieces and Monsieur Rufus de Poodle.
I decided to follow a bit of the Murray home to Wentworth.  Here are the cliffs at Walker Flat from the ferry.
Being a Wednesday, there were pizzas to greet me when I got home
because Wednesday night is the night we all watch Inspector Rex together.
